Surrounded

I felt an urge to revisit this character when I saw her pop up in a recent Beardcast. This was originally going to be a quick doodle, but then I started emulating the colors in this fantastic Justin Cherry/Kevin Dalton collaboration. Things kind of snowballed from there.

Gotta watch out for those protective parents.

I adore the color scheme on this one! And, as always, there's so much lovely detail everywhere!

Thanks!

D'oh... despite being the guy who made it, the parent-child interpretation didn't occur to me until I had nearly finished it.

I had originally thought of the little shadow as just a decoy without assigning any family relationships (do the shadows have families?), but I admit it does make the picture more menacing if there's a connection there.

Can't take too much credit on the color scheme, since I was influenced by another work. Still trying to get better in that regard!

Well, they say the key for writers and artists is to steal wisely. Even if you didn't come up with the color scheme on your own, you get points for good implementation.

We all reflect our own interpretations onto things, and I certainly saw the large shadow as the parent. My only question is.....was the large shadow the mother or the father? (My thought was mother. Very angry mother.)

Alright, since you insist, I'll give myself some credit. I'm a great thief. :D

Hmmm, you know, the more I think about shadow families, the more this whole concept seems to go in a very Nier-ish direction.
